I and my dad used to go deer hunting in the Hoosier national forest. We would go separate ways once we got into the woods and designate a spot to meet up for lunch. This was before the days of cell phones.
There was several times we met up for lunch. And while eating could hear what sounded like 2 limbs being banged together.
We never really tried to investigate. The noise. And it was before I really gave big foot much thought.
The area of the forestry was a couple of miles from the Ohio River.
Fast forward 20 years me and my folks bought a small piece of farmland in the same area. I now have teenage kids and was trying to get them into hunting so I could share my passion of the woods.
My daughter and Istarted out about an hour before daylight so we could get to the stand and get settled in well before daylight. I build a stand for 2 about 20ft high in a large oak tree.
As we got relaxed we heard what could only be described as a very loud and distinct whoop. It was so loud you could feel it in your chest. She quickly asked me.
Dad what was that?? I have her the only answer I could honestly give.
I was not sure but we both had shotguns loaded with deer slugs and was not far from home. Shortly after daylight, she wanted to return to the safety of the home.
Soon after I started doing some research myself.
I found that primates are the only animal to whoop. We hear this whooping from time to time it seems like spring and fall as if we are on a migrations route I’ve never seen tracks or caught sight of one. Thanks, Mark.
